DIY Tic-Tac-Toe Decorative and Functional Playset
PLEXIGLASS ACRYLIC TIC-TAC-TOE ACCENT TRAY | LEARN TO MAKE YOUR OWN TIC-TAC-TOE PLAYSET | BY MARITZAGARCIA.WEBSITE
Today I’m sharing how I created this tic-tac-toe accent tray/playset.
This playset makes a beautiful accent piece for play or display. The simplicity of this tray works well with any color palette. I love all the shimmer and shine from the brass accents which in my opinion, adds tons of warmth and charm to our marble coffee table.
The tray slab is a sheet of transparent plexiglass acrylic, followed by metallic gold brass washi tape to create 3x3 grids, finished with brass flat top standoff holder screws to elevate and protect table surfaces. The Xs and Os are made out of layers and layers of gold leather foil paper card stock.

Supplies list:
- transparent plexiglass acrylic
-power drill
-brass flat top standoff holder screws
-liquid glue
-12”x12” gold leather foil paper card stock
-metallic gold brass washi tape
-cutting machine (no cutting machine no problem) try -1.5" Punch-Cut Alphabet instead.
PROJECT TIME: 60 MINUTES OR LESS.
INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1.
Take A SHEET OF plexiglass acrylic. be SURE TO LEAVE the FRONT AND BACK PROTECTIVE FILM UNTIL AFTER DRILLING YOUR HOLES.
NEXT, TAKE A MARKER TO mark where you want your flat top standoff holder screws to rest.
Once that's Determined, take your power drill and drill through the markings on your plexiglass acrylic slab —remember to keep the protective film on until after you drill into it.
I Gradually worked my way up using four different drill bits. I did so out of fear I’d Crack My plexiglass acrylic Slab if I went in too aggressively.
Tip: I started with 1/8, then 13/64, next1/4, and lastly 5/16.
STEP 2.
Create 3x3 grids using washi tape.
STEP 3.
Attach flat top standoff holder screws to the plexiglass acrylic slab.
STEP 4.
If using a cutting machine to create X’s and O’s adjust the letter sizes to 1.3” W x 1.3” H.
STEP. 5
Layer each X and O piece 5x’s each to create height using liquid glue. I used Tombow for this project. If you do not own a cutting machine. No problem you can use 1.5” wood Letters instead.
Using my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine I cut out 32 X’s and 32 O’s using HumbleFont font and adjusting the letter sizes to 1.3”w and 1.3”H.
And that’s all there is to know about this DIY.

Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth, and don’t forget to find a nice little dish to store your game pieces.
a few weeks ago I found this narrow wooden tray and planned to use it for another DIY project. But honestly, I like it better as a token holder for my TIC-TAC-TOE game pieces. : P
